“Life” Dodges Viewers and “Ugly Betty” Does Halloween?
I sat down to watch Life tonight, promptly at 9pm (Central), only to find that it wasn’t there. The TV guide from our local newspaper said it would be there, but nope, instead we got an episode of Lipstick Jungle. So I cruised over to the NBC website, and that’s right, Life has been moved to Wednesdays at 8pm. Never mind that week it was on Wednesday. Or Wednesday and Friday. Or maybe it was Thursday. Why do networks do this? Do they want us to stop watching their show?
I suppose there may have been times when relocating a show worked in its favor. But when you keep moving it, or pre-empting it, or putting it on hiatus, the fans drop off. After awhile, when you can’t find it, you stop bothering to look. I was watching reruns of Bones every Tuesday night on TNT for months. Then they suddenly had it on Wednesday, then it was back on Tuesday, then it moved to Mondays. One day I realized it had been months since I’d watched it, because I had completely forgotten about it. The new shows started coming on and distracting me and I stopped hunting. NBC take note. Please don’t kill one of my favorite shows! Damian Lewis is an amazing actor and I enjoy seeing him on TV every week. Sarah Shahi rocks the small screen as well. I’ve got an open slot on Wednesdays, so this move doesn’t hurt as much as others have. Leave it alone, NBC, leave it alone.
And in Ugly Betty news, I was a little surprised that an over-the-top show like this wouldn’t do another Halloween episode. Then Betty came out wearing an oversized print bowtie and I realized no costume would look more ridiculous than the outfits they’re putting her in every week. I know Ugly Betty is supposed to be exaggerated, but it seems like there’d be more charming ways to show her individuality than finding the most obnoxious clothing available and lumping it all together on her small frame.
