Saturday Night Live Without Amy Poehler
It’s not something I’m looking forward to, but Amy Poehler looks to be leaving SNL for good. Most assumed at first that she’d be taking time off due to the recent birth of her son with husband Will Arnett. Turns out she’s got a primetime series in the works, a mockumentary by the producers of The Office. This is a double hit for me.
To me, Amy Poehler was the glue holding the current cast of SNL together. She was the only standout left, in my opinion. Her Christopher Walken impression alone was worth weeks of laughter. Her Hillary Clinton impersonation alongside the real Hillary was historical late night TV goodness. She will be missed greatly, and I think the ratings could reflect that.
As for her new venture, I wish her all success. But I’ve never liked The Office, and I don’t care that much for 30 Rock, either. I adore Tina Fey, but it’s just not a style of comedy I’m into, apparently. The Office barely gets a smirk out of me, let alone an actual laugh. I’m not sure what the draw is, but maybe it’s something that builds loyalty over time.
So, in any case, this is bad news for me. Amy Poehler is leaving SNL and will be going on to a show I probably won’t want to watch.
