ABC Tries Sci-Fi with Flash Forward
Excited sci-fi bloggers are buzzing about the new ABC pilot on tap, called Flash Forward. Based on a Robert J. Sawyer novel, the show begins when everyone in the world blacks out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds–during which they have horrifying visions of the future.
Not sure yet what I think of the premise…I’ll have to see how it fleshes out. Right now it’s the casting that’s got my interest piqued. I was excited enough when word was Jack Davenport (of Coupling, Pirates of the Carribean, and Swingtown fame) and Courtney B. Vance (super-stoic ADA Carver on Law & Order: Criminal Intent) were joining the series. Now SF Universe reports that Joseph Fiennes (Running with Scissors, Shakespeare in Love) and John Cho (the new Star Trek movie, Harold and Kumar series) are tops on ABCs list for roles. Here’s hoping that all works out.
With executive producers experienced in the genre (David S. Goyer and Brannon Braga), it looks like a lot of good elements are coming together for this show. It’s planned as a possible companion piece for Lost. I’m not sure how that looks for Life on Mars, which is scheduled to be paired with Lost late this coming January. Since Flash Forward hasn’t even begun filming yet, I’m not exactly sure how soon this pairing with Lost might happen anyway, so I guess we’ll just have to stay tuned and find out!
