Crusoe tonight, Wealth Hunters tomorrow…

Published by V at 6:39 pm under Crusoe, HGTV & TLC, Primetime TV Edit This

TLC’s got an interesting show on tomorrow night called Wealth Hunters. I’m not generally the first in line for reality-type programming, but this one sounds interesting, fun, and hopefully positively life changing for a couple of families.

You may have heard before about inheritances and estates that go unclaimed, because no one can track down the relatives. Well, enter the Wealth Hunters, investigators who locate two such inheritances and try to match them with potential heirs in New Orleans. Imagine answering a knock on your door and finding out you may be entitled to a million dollars! Check out the preview below to get a taste of the show:

Wealth Hunters airs Sunday night, December 7, on TLC at 9pm Eastern/8pm Central. And don’t worry, for you Cold Case fans who are sans DVR, Wealth Hunters replays on TLC at 11/10c. Be sure to check your local listings to verify!

ETA: My follow-up review of Wealth Hunters is here .

And don’t forget to watch Crusoe tonight, in its new Saturday at 8/7c time slot on NBC. Apparently in this episode Crusoe and Friday will be attempting to erm, “appropriate” the mutineers’ ship. Let’s see how that turns out…

This show is sick. All the show consists of is two people snooping through dead peoples bank accounts looking for money that hasn’t been passed down to anyone. Once they find a good amount of money they will hunt down relatives that are the next inheritants (heirs). Once they get all these people to sign for the money, they inherit it. Well sure its all good getting people this money thats rightfully theirs, but these ‘wealth hunters’ aren’t smiling because they helped out a family. They are really smiling because they just convinced them to sign a paper that gives the two of them the right to 1/3 of that money. I can’t see how someone could be so sick as to benefit from someones death that they didnt even know personally. Every penny of that money should belong to the inheritants. It’s basically saying “I’m glad your family member died cause thats money in my pocket. Thanks for signing, bye.” Well if anyone is contacted by a wealth hunter like this I want you to say no to them. DO NOT sign that. All you have to do is visit your local courthouse and talk to them about it and they will arrange everything. By doing it this way you get every cent of your money. The only thing you lose is a small amount of money on paperwork and such, but i garauntee its not even close to 1/3 of your inheritance that your losing. I am happy to see families getting their rightful money, but as far as the people who hunt for these deceased peoples wealth, it makes this show is very appauling to me and is a sick practice of gaining money.

What a couple of scam artists!! Taking one third of a dead persons familys money from people that really need it, I mean like really need it. Absolute pieces of sh!t. They should go back to california and pray for God to forgive them for their actions.

Luke, I totally agree. What a sick show. These (heirs) are so poor they will sign anything. Im just saddened by their greed. Shame on them.

I totally disagree with the comments above. If these two people didn’t step up, then these heirs would probably never get a penny. Yes, the two people did earn a lot for this case. BUT, how many cases do they work and they get nothing. They may work 10 cases, and only one of them pans out. Yet, they had expenses for all of them. Traveling to different towns does cost money. And, their time is worth something. Lastly, getting all the paperwork done is not a super simple task. Not everyone is willing to figure it all out. And, many times you have to push the “estate” through probate, which means an administrator must get paid. Maybe they act as the administrator, and that’s part of the pay they get. I don’t know, but to flippantly say because someone is gaining from someone’s loss that is not related is wrong is an ignorant saying. I suggest trying to do what these guys do for 6 months. Find out how much expenses one has doing this business. And you’ll see it’s not easy.

The Wealth Hunters do a good service, unlike the state and county treasuries who are the ones who hold these unclaimed estates and, in most cases, make NO effort to find the families who are entitled to the inheritance. Do you know why? It’s so these state and county treasuries can collect the interest or eventually keep the money for themselves. Research it, it’s a FACT. Taking one-third as a fee is an industry standard in business, ask your attorney! Job well done TLC and Wealth Hunters!

I thought the show was interesting in finding families that never knew of one another in the first place. My father has been looking for his relatives so long and never got any answers. If this show can find people that is good for the families that never knew they even had relatives from all over.
And good for the people that can not afford to go travel to find the lost family members it helps them to let the show do all the work even though you do get a part of the money.

I think it is ok to watch the show and good to see people that had no idea that they had any money coming to them they now had something to look forward to having. And be happy to see and meet up with relatives that they diden’t otherwise know about. I would love to meet up with relatives I diden’t know about even if I diden’t have money coming in.
