George Clooney and Julianna Margulies Return to ER

Published by V at 11:53 pm under Primetime TV, TV News & Rumors Edit This

So, there you have it, E!News and TV.com both report that George Clooney and Julianna Margulies are set to reprise their roles as the much beloved Dr. Doug and Nurse Carol on ER. I haven’t watched the show in years, but I may consider tuning in for this reunion–especially as Susan Sarandon will also appear in the episode.

I gave up watching ER years ago. Interestingly enough, I recently got caught up in daily reruns and gave up on them at about the same time I gave up on the series before. After both Clooney and Margulies departed, it just wasn’t the same anymore. The two had so much heart and charisma, and while I liked some of the remaining characters, there wasn’t enough oomph to really drive the show forward. ER also got too carried away with inter-staff datingthey needed to keep adding characters so the existing ones would have someone new to go out with. Then there was the soul-crushing melodrama.

Considering how long the show has continued to go on, it obviously had a faithful following. If I’d stuck it out, it may have picked up steam for me later in its run. Either way, March 12 is sure to be a big ratings boost and last hurrah for ER, which hits its finale on April 2.

Watch the George Clooney, Julianna Margulies episode of ER on Thursday, March 12, at 10pm Eastern/9pm Central.
