Dancing Audience Not into Castle

Published by V at 10:47 pm under Castle, Primetime TV Edit This

Well, the numbers are in. Dancing with the Stars exploded last night with a jump in ratings from last season, grabbing 22.7 million viewers. Unfortunately, only about half stayed tuned to the premiere of Castle, which grabbed 11.6 million viewers. While, according to TV.com, Castle’s numbers are “disappointing”, I’m thinking in the bigger picture they’re nothing to sneeze at. After all, ABC has been canceling series with 4-5 million viewers, and 11.6 million is quite ahead of that cut-off.

Nathan Fillion is best known for his work with Joss Whedon on Buffy, Firefly, Serenity, and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Geek fans of Whedon’s are a lot more likely to be Tivo-ing a show or catching it on-line–moreso than Dancing with the Stars fans, who may have switched over to Medium.

Seeing as I am still living in the stone age, I watched Castle on tape–yes, that’s right, I programmed my VCR to tape it while I watched Medium. (And no, I wasn’t watching DWTS, I was watching Heroes). I would really like the programmers to stop putting every show I want to watch on Mondays. Today I watched absolutely nothing, since The Mentalist was a rerun. I would ask ABC to move Castle to Tuesdays, only they’d probably schedule it against The Mentalist–and scheduling Simon Baker vs. Nathan Fillion would just be cruel to fans of adorable men.

Set your DVRs or VCRs or watch Castle in real time on ABC, Monday nights at 10pm Eastern/9pm Central.
